On February 4, at 12:00, the Ukrainian National News Agency "Ukrinform" will host a presentation of packages of initiatives of cities that became winners of the grant program of the Ukrainian Cultural Foundation "Cultural Capitals of Ukraine" - Mariupol and Slavutych.

The presentation, which will be broadcast online on the Ukrinform website and on the UСF Facebook page, will be attended by:

  • Oleksandr Tkachenko, Minister of Culture and Information Policy of Ukraine
  • Yulia Fediv, Executive Director of the Ukrainian Cultural Foundation
  • Vadym Boychenko, the Mayor of Mariupol
  • Yuriy Fomichev, the Mayor of Slavutych

It will be recalled that in 2019, the UCF launched a program designed to stimulate the sense of belonging of members of territorial communities to their common cultural space, promote cultural tourism and support local cultural initiatives. This competition program also opens an opportunity for Ukrainian cities to establish partnerships with European Capitals of Culture and in the future to claim the status of European Capital of Culture.

The first winners of the program were Mariupol, which received the status of "Big Cultural Capital", and Slavutych, which received the status of "Small Cultural Capital". Cities were supposed to implement their projects during 2020, but due to the epidemic of coronavirus COVID-19 UCF decided to postpone all activities to 2021.
